Hot Pod Newsletter Faces Unknown Future

The Hot Pod newsletter, distributing industry news since 2014, has been put on hiatus, according to the publishers.

Hot Pod was produced as part of The Verge, a technology website owned by Vox Media.

Lead Hot Pod reporter Ariel Shapiro announced she would leave The Verge this week. The newsletter will be suspended while editors determine next steps.

The move coincides with other moves this week by Vox Media, which also shut down a number for sports podcasts that had operated under their SB Nation banner.

Shapiro posted two Hot Pod updates Thursday. She had reported on layoffs and cuts at other podcast companies as recently as last week.

Shapiro said she will take time off with her young son before pursuing another job within the industry. No immediate information was available on the status of Ashley Carman and Nick Quah, the other two writers for Hot Pod.

PodcastVideos.com was able to sign up for the Hot Pod newsletter Friday, and a confirmation email tells us to expect a newsletter every Tuesday. We will update next week.
